2 More Important Features A Revolver Holster Has To Deliver

In our previous blog, we discussed the many reasons that the newer form-fitting revolver holsters beat the old leather versions. After all, you require something that keeps your revolver as secure as possible but releases it easily when you need it. You also want a holster that will protect your investment while still making it easy to access the grip.

But as we were writing about our revolver holsters, even more points made themselves clear as to why you want to make sure to purchase one that perfectly fits your firearm…and your body. Let’s take a look at the advantages of buying a holster that’s a perfect fit.

Be Comfortable

No matter what kind of holster you need, whether it’s a speed holster or one for concealed carry, you want it to be as comfortable as possible. It shouldn’t be sticking out too far, because then you’re going to have it bumping into car doors and the like. You also don’t want it sticking out so far that you’re brushing your arm again it constantly. To put it simply, you don’t want it to get in the way.

One way to ensure that a holster is as comfortable as possible is to have it take up as little space as possible. With traditional leather holsters, there’s a lot of wasted space because of the limitations in leatherwork. But because each of our revolver holsters has been molded around the specific gun in question, that means that it’s only slightly larger than the gun itself. Basically, each contour you see on the holster saves space.

Be Where You Want It

We mentioned this a little in our last blog, but let’s expand on it a little. A holster should be where you left it (and we’re not talking about leaving it on your dresser and finding that it disappeared!). The problem with leather holsters is that they have a simple loop through which you put your belt. But that loop certainly wasn’t going to keep the holster where you wanted it, because it can simply slide between the belt loops. Not only can this be uncomfortable, but it can also be dangerous. Think about the average right-handed revolver holster and getting into a car. If it’s secure on your belt, then you can also know where it needs to be placed so that it can avoid the seatbelt. But if it’s sliding around on your belt, it’s more likely to hit the seat belt latch, perhaps even dislodging the revolver from its holster. (At the very least, you’ll get more scratches on your grip.)

When it comes to the actual draw time, you also need to know exactly where your holster — and therefore your revolver — is at every moment. If you reach for your firearm and it’s actually three inches back from where you thought it was, you’re going to be annoyed, or, if you’re face to face with a rattlesnake, on your way to hospital…all because your holster worked its way back on your belt. Keep it in place with a secure revolver holster!

The fact is, the only real reason to go with a traditional leather holster is looks. If you have a revolver from the before the 1970s and are going for that “certain John Wayne look,” then sure, we understand the interest. Sometimes you just can’t find a holster for those old revolvers. But when it comes to many of the most common revolvers around today, including S&W Governors and Taurus Judge, we have excellent holsters that can help you make the most of your firearm.
