How To Protect Your Rural Home

While it’s not as common in rural areas, urban areas certainly aren’t the only places where crime and theft can be an issue. Here at Speed Beez, your source for quality magazine loaders and speed loaders, we’ve got some tips on how to keep your homestead secure when you’re miles and miles from the help of police.

  1. Get your family a dog. Dogs are easily one of the best means of home defense as they aren’t just intimidating but they also make a lot of noise. However, know that there’s a difference between watch dogs and guard dogs and most dogs can only perform as a watch dog.
  2. Put up signs around your property. Sometimes people trespass on accident and while someone intent on stealing or harming you won’t be stopped by a sign, they’re still useful for a number of legal reasons. One of the most basic signs to have displayed on your property is the classic “No Trespassing.”
  3. Consider adding locking gates to your driveway(s). There is a general rule in rural areas that a closed gate means you shouldn’t enter unless the person is expecting you. For those without a perimeter fence, you can use natural materials found on your property like giant boulders or logs to prevent people from driving around the gate. You can even add motion detection sensors that can alert you that someone is walking or driving onto your property!
