Benefits of Leather Revolver Holsters

Read on to learn about just a few of these reasons. When you’re ready to get a new leather revolver holster, check out our large selection and find a holster that will fit your revolver.

Leather Revolver Holsters Look Great

Thanks to the dedication of craftspeople who design and build leather holsters, you will be hard-pressed to find holsters that look better than ones made from leather. Leather holsters are available in a number of colors and finishes that are aesthetically pleasing and can easily adapt to your personal style.

Leather Revolver Holsters Are Built to Last

Leather is an incredibly strong material that will last for a long time if properly cared for. Think about it this way — if you own a leather jacket, you’ve probably noticed that even if it is many years old, it has kept its shape while growing softer to the touch. A leather revolver holster is the same way. Even inside-the-waistband holsters that are exposed to your body heat will stay useful for many years. Despite being lightweight, leather won’t tear or break like some plastics. We cover leather care farther down this page, but here we will just say that even a minimal amount of maintenance will help your holster strong and suitable for carrying your revolver.

Leather Revolver Holsters Are Quiet

If you carry a revolver for hunting or defense, you know how important it is for you to to be able to draw your revolver as quietly as possible. Thanks to the softness of leather, drawing from one is almost completely silent. Leather also doesn’t make a sound if you happen to bump against something, which is great for those times when you are carrying but don’t want to announce it to everyone in the room.

Leather Revolver Holsters Are Very Comfortable

Ask anyone who has carried a pistol or a revolver in an IWB holster what material they prefer and they will almost certainly say that leather is the only real option. Because leather is a natural material, it won’t irritate the skin even if you are wearing the holster for hours on end. The malleability of leather helps your holster rest closer to your body while also forming a better fit around your revolver.

There are many other reasons that leather is a superior material for revolver holsters, and we will cover more of them later. For now, be sure to check out our selection of leather revolver holsters for many different models of revolvers. At Speed Beez, we are proud to sell only the highest-quality holsters, speed loaders, revolver sights, 10/22 upgrades, mag speed loaders, speed loader pouches, cylinder releases, moon clips, and grips. How to maintain a leather revolver holster

How to Maintain a Leather Revolver Holster

Although leather is an incredibly tough material that can take a lot of abuse, it still needs to be maintained in order to stay as strong as possible. Unlike other natural materials, leather is as easy to clean as it is strong. Below you will find some simple instructions that are good for taking care of most leather holsters. If the maker of your holster suggests something different, make sure to follow those directions.

Be careful when using leather conditioners. Leather conditioners are designed to help moisturize leather. While this sounds like a good thing, when it comes to leather holsters, moisture isn’t a good thing. A molded leather holster can become too loose after being over-moisturized, which means that it won’t hold your revolver as snugly as it should. A loose holster can mean that your revolver will move around in the holster making drawing more difficult, and it could even allow your revolver to fall out.

Daily Care Tips

After you have taken your holster off for the day, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth and place it somewhere cool and dry. Allowing your holster a chance to dry if it has been resting against your body all day is important because it will help your holster last longer.

If the holster has become dirty, warm water, a brush with soft bristles, and glycerin soap is all you need to clean it up. Add a small amount of soap to the brush, scrub the dirty areas, and rinse using as little water as you can. Remove as much water as possible by dabbing the holster with a dry cloth and let it dry completely before placing the gun back in the holster or wearing it. Letting it dry will help it maintain its form and strength.

Long-Term Leather Holster Care

In addition to keeping your holster dry and clean, there are a few extra steps you can take to ensure its long life and usefulness.

Keep your holster dry but don’t expose it to very hot conditions. Leaving leather in the sun or inside of a hot car can discolor the holster and make the leather more brittle.

If your holster is wet, never try to make it dry faster by exposing it to heat. This could distort the holster, making it less tight.

Apply a thin layer of silicone spray to the inside of the holster once a month. Silicone spray will help repel any moisture that may find its way into the holster and it will make your draw smoother and faster.

If you have more questions about the best ways to take care of a leather holster, consult any literature that comes with your holster, check the manufacturer’s website, or talk to someone who has taken care of leather holsters for a long time. With the right care, your holster will be with you for years to come!

Is This Leather Revolver Holster Allowed in Competitions?

If you are interested in shooting your revolver in competitions, you might be surprised to learn that there are many rules and regulations that state what holsters can and can’t be used. While most of these rules are enforced to keep everyone safe, some of them have to do with style and historical accuracy. If you have questions about whether a particular holster is acceptable for use in the competitions you are interested in, check the guidelines that the organization has laid out. They will be incredibly clear about what is allowed and what isn’t. Save yourself the trouble of arriving for what you hope will be a day of fun by ensuring that the holster you want is acceptable. Revolvers Are Easy to Carry

While compact and subcompact automatics have been flooding the market over the last few decades, gun makers have been designing and building small revolvers almost from the beginning. Decades of work have led to revolvers that are small enough to carry in an ankle holster or under a jacket without sacrificing anything but weight. It is so easy to carry a revolver as a backup, that once you start, you’ll be amazed it took you so long to see the light!

Revolvers Are Easy to Use

Even the most complex revolvers are relatively simple when compared to semi-automatic pistols. A revolver is ready to go whenever and wherever you need it. If you choose a double-action revolver as your backup, you don’t even need to cock the hammer before pulling the trigger. Their ease of use can also help make training with them easier, which is important when you think about how much less time we spend drilling with our backups.

Revolvers Are Reliable

While nothing will ever work 100 percent of the time, a revolver that is well-cared for, set up, and carried correctly, is one of the most reliable firearms you can carry. If your main carry weapon is an automatic, try carrying a revolver for a backup — we think you’ll be surprised at how much you love it. The solid feel of a revolver has been a great comfort to generations of law enforcement personnel and civilians who have been caught up in a bad situation.

Find the speed loaders, holsters, and other revolver accessories that you need to make carrying a revolver as your backup as easy as possible. At Speed Beez, we make and sell speed loaders that allow you to reload as fast as possible thanks to a special spring-loaded design that is activated and deactivated by pushing down instead of twisting. Many people who have chosen Speed Beez have noticed a dramatic decrease in the amount of time it takes them to reload — with a little practice, even amateur shooters can get their reload times below five seconds!

Using Leather Revolver Holsters For Concealed Carry

Using Leather Revolver Holsters for Concealed Carry

While there are a lot of people out there who will tell you that the only kind of revolver holster worth using is a plastic or Kydex holster, there are plenty of good reasons to make your daily concealed carry holster a leather one.

Read on for a few reasons that leather makes an excellent holster material, and then browse our online shop to find one that you will be comfortable carrying! While you’re browsing, be sure to check out our selection of speed loaders, gun belts, moon clips, and tons of other high-quality revolver accessories.

Form-Fitting

Many people prefer a leather holster to other materials because they love how perfectly a leather holster will hold their revolver. Over time, the leather will basically form a custom-molded shell over your revolver which allows for reliable, fast draws and secure holds. A high-quality leather holster really can be the best of both worlds.

In order to keep it in as good a shape as possible, make sure to care for it properly. Most holsters come with advice for care, but here are a few standard rules that apply to almost every leather holster out there:

  • Try not to get it wet. Moisture can cause the leather to change shape, loosen, or become stiff in all the wrong places. If your holster does get wet, allow it to dry out slowly on its own.
  • Don’t let it get too dry. Think about an old car with a leather interior that has been sitting outside for a long time. One of the first parts of that car that will start to show its age is the leather. Leather requires some TLC and some proper moisturization in order to stay supple.

A Variety of Holster Types

Leather holsters are available in many different shapes and sizes. Below are a few of the most consistently popular styles that you are likely to run across.

Shoulder Holsters

Perfect for people who wear jackets or sports coats every day, shoulder holsters are comfortable and easy to draw from. If you carry a full-size revolver, a shoulder holster provides you with enough room to carry it without it affecting your ability to walk. On the opposite side of the holster is a container where you can store extra ammo. This also helps balance out the weight.

Ankle Holsters

If you have a smaller revolver, an ankle holster might be the ideal place to carry it. Leather ankle holsters can be so comfortable that you almost forget it is there. While drawing from an ankle holster is more obvious than from a belt or shoulder holster, it does incentivize you to find cover quickly, and it allows you to present a smaller target. These holsters are also the standard for a backup weapon, so if you carry two revolvers, having one on your ankle might be a great idea.

Waistband Holsters

There are almost uncountable number of options for waistband holsters. Among the most important decisions you need to make about this style is choosing whether you want to carry inside or outside of your waistband. The size of your revolver may make one option rather obvious, but depending on what you wear everyday, this may not be a problem for you. Waistband holsters can make for awkward draws sometimes, but with enough practice (and the right holster) this won’t be too big of an issue.
