Our Favorite Brands of Revolver Holsters: Taurus and Colt Hosters

We talked a bit in our last blog about how much we enjoy our firearms. After all, we work with them every day to ensure that the speedloaders we create will work perfectly in the cylinders. So you won’t be surprised to know that we own quite a few firearms ourselves, and that we love to get out and shoot as much as possible. We use what we sell, so we always have a speedloader and loading block on hand for pretty much every revolver we’re carrying.

Of course, we also like having our firearms on the hip, and that means having a revolver holster that keeps each and every gun secure while still letting it slide out easily when it’s time to draw. Since we have so many brands of firearms for “testing” (another word word for “we really want to own these guns”!), we have to have quite a few holsters as well, and that’s why we carry revolver holsters for some of the most popular competition handguns out there. Let’s take a look at the brands we’re proud to support.

Colt Revolver Holsters

We have revolvers holsters for three of Colts most popular handguns.

  • Diamondback – When it comes to the Diamondback, the number 22 keeps coming up. While no longer in production, the 6-shot Diamondback was a very popular option for 22 years (1966-1988) and was available in both .22LR and .22 WMR. Oh, and also .38 Special.
  • King Cobra – The 6-round .357 King Cobra was around from 1986 until 1998. It was available in many different barrel lengths, including 2 inch, 2.5 inch, 4 inch, 6 inch, and 8 inch. Like all .357 revolvers, it could also use .38 Special ammunition.
  • Python – The Colt Python is one of the best handguns ever made, so it makes sense we’d have a revolver holster for it even though it hasn’t been in production for over a decade. This .357 Magnum was released in 1955 and wasn’t taken out of production until 2005.

Ruger Revolver Holsters

Speed Beez carries revolver holsters for six Ruger models of various barrel lengths.

  • Security Six – Chambered in .38 Special/.357, the Security Six was introduced by Ruger in 1972 and stuck around until 1988. The Security Six was the first in a series of double-action revolvers from Ruger, which led to the Service-Six and the Speed-Six (the latter two were also available in 9mm Luger Parabellum). We carry four different revolver holsters for the Security Six, depending on the barrel length you need.
  • GP100 – Begun in 1985 as the first of second-generation Rugers (to replace legacy firearms such as the Security Six), the GP100 is still in production as of this writing. It’s available in 6-shot .357 Magnum/.38 Special, 7-shot .327 Federal Magnum, and 10-shot .22LR. There are three different different barrel lengths — 3 inch, 4.2 inch, and 6 inch, and Speed Beez carries 10 different versions of the holster, so make sure you grab the right one.
  • SP101 – The SP101 began production in 1988 and is still available new in gun shops across the country. Like the GP100, it’s available in .357 Magnum/.38 Special, .327 Federal Magnum, and .22LR. However, because it’s on a smaller frame, the cylinder capacities are fewer: 5-shot, 6-shot, and 8-shot respectively. (For a time there were 9mm versions and .32 Magnum versions, but they have been discontinued.) Speed Beez carries seven holsters in three different barrel lengths.
  • Super Redhawk Alaskan – The Super Redhawk Alaskan was developed to be the ultimate hiking revolver, capable of stopping large attacking animals. It’s been around for just over a decade and comes in one barrel length, 2.5 inches. While there’s a single barrel length, there are three available calibers on this revolver: .480 Ruger, .44 magnum, and .454 Casull/.45 Colt. When production began, all three calibers had a 6-shot cylinder. The .454 Casull has since been reduced to a five shot starting in 2008. We carry six different revolver holsters for the Super Redhawk Alaskan.
  • Ruger LCR – LCR stands for Lightweight Compact Revolver, and indeed these revolvers weigh in at just about a pound. This concealed-hammer revolver comes in six different calibers but has a single 1.875 inch barrel length. The LCR comes in .22LR, .22 WMR, .38 Special +P, .357 Magnum, 9mm Luger, and .327 Federal Magnum. This 5-rounder is the newest of all the handguns we provide revolver holsters for, as it started production in 2010. You’ll find that we have three different holsters available for it.

Phew, all that talk and we’ve only gotten through two of the companies we supply revolver holsters for. Stop back next time and we’ll talk about some of our favorites from Taurus and Smith & Wesson. But if we’ve already covered the handgun that you favor, be sure to head on over to our revolver and speed holsters and find one that’s best for you.
