We’re going to assume that you like action movies. If not, that’s fine, we’ll go back to talking about speedloaders and the best shoulder holsters next week. But we want to tell you about one of the coolest sites on the web, especially if you like movies and guns.
We’re sure you’ve been watching a movie and there are guns you can’t identify. Let us introduce you to imfdb.org, the Internet Movie Firearms Database.
Search By Actor / Movie / Gun: If you’ve ever wanted a list of every guns that Clint Eastwood has ever held on film, here it is. (He’s also one of the few who has used a speedloader). Curious to know what movies the guns you own have been featured in? Do a simple search. And when you want the laundry list of every gun found in the Matrix films, you’ll find them at IMFDB!
Just What Was That Thing?: Sometimes you might be watching a movie and someone pulls out something weird you’ve never seen before. It’s usually the big bad to whom they give a gold-plated variant with ivory handles, or a COP .357 Derringer that most people would think is exotic (found in Blade Runner, Bad Boys, and 21 Jump Street, by the way). And there are so many foreign sniper rifles that a hard-to-identify one is always popping up. Who can help you? IMFDB!
Heavy Modifications: The people who submit to IMFDB are eagle-eyed…they can see guns inside other guns! In other words, nearly every gun in a sci-fi movie is built around another gun. If any part of that original gun can be identified, be sure that those who work on IMFDB will be able to pick it out. (Calicos are modified all the time to create sci-fi weapons.)
If you’re at work right now, don’t go to imfdb.org…the rest of your day will be shot! But if you’ve got a few hours to waste, head on over to check out your favorite movies.
