Use a Revolver Speed Holster Correctly And Avoid Getting Shot On The Firing Range

Revolver speed loaders are amazing inventions. Because they’re form-fitted to each particular model of firearm, they can hold the firearm tightly without a clasp and they allow for a fast, effortless draw.

Well, effortless if you do it right. After all, we’re talking about revolver speed holsters, so there’s a good chance that you’ll be seeing just how quickly you can get your revolver from the holster and beaded on the target. And when you do this, there are some things you’ve just got to avoid to stay out of the emergency room.

Know Where To Put Your Finger: Spoiler alert! When you’re drawing your pistol, your finger on the trigger is the last step. Don’t think that it’s okay pull your pistol up all the way with your finger on the trigger. Those who keep their finger where it’s supposed to be avoid shooting themselves in the leg.

Don’t Drop Your Gun: What makes for a better shooting experience: taking an extra eighth-of-a-second to secure your grip on the gun, or fumbling the gun and having it hit the pavement with some chance of accidentally going off? (and definetly getting scratched and knocking your sites out of alignment.) Make sure the gun is in your hand, and stop moving your arm if you aren’t positive you have the right grip.

Wear Your Speed Loader Holster Correctly: Speed loader holsters are meant to come out at a very specific angle. If you wear your holster incorrectly, it’s going to be harder to remove, and you’re more likely to struggle with it and put your trigger finger in the wrong place (see above). You don’t want to wear it too high on your body one day and too low the next, which confuses you body map.

Firing quickly after drawing from your revolver speed holster is a fine skill, and it takes practice, so make sure to practice at home without live rounds. Find your favorite, then be safe on the range!
